When a new play is premiered, the focus of the criticism is on the text. Is it original? Is it relevant? Is it spelt out in a way that makes sense? The team’s technical abilities are secondary to the idea being presented.

NUR AMEERA BT MOHD RAMLI 
Gadis berusia 27 tahun yang dibesarkan di Kuala Lumpur ini mula melanjutkan pelajaran dalam bidang lakonan di UiTM pada tahun 2004 dalam jurusan Diploma Seni Persembahan (Seni Lakon) sebelum melanjutkan pelajaran ke Jabatan Drama Universiti Malaya, Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Pengarahan).
 
Sikap ramah dan mudah didekati beliau menyebabkan beliau banyak mendapat tawaran untuk berlakon dalam short film oleh para pelajar kursus skrin semasa di UiTM, walaupun beliau merupakan seorang pelajar teater. Bermula dengan teater SELENDANG JIWA, beliau kemudiannya terlibat dalam teater ALANG RENTAK SERIBU arahan Azhan Abd Rani sebagai pelakon dan teater MUZIKAL RAM, juga sebagai pelakon sebelum menyertai Festival Teater Selangor 2006 bersama THE ART STAGE CLUB (A.S.C) melalui teater AYAM JANTAN AYAM BETINA dan WAJAH LUMPUR sebagai WATI. Melalui watak WATI, beliau telah memenangi anugerah PELAKON WANITA TERBAIK bagi  Festival Teater Selangor 2007 dan Festival Teater Kebangsaan 2008.
 
Selain itu, beliau juga banyak terlibat dalam program mendeklamasi puisi sebagai penyajak, sebagai pekerja belakang tabir produksi teater dan terlibat sebagai korus dalam Teater URMI yang dipentaskan di Istana Budaya. Teater THE BIRDS merupakan penilaian beliau di Universiti Malaya yang dipentaskan di Auditorium Muzium Negara. Membawa watak Iskandar Muda di dalam pementasan MAK YONG TITIS SAKTI arahan Zizie Zulkifli yang dipentaskan di KLPAC. TANGAN KIRI AYAH adalah persembahan monodrama beliau yang telah berjaya di Festival Teater Selangor baru-baru ini dan terpilih untuk dipertandingkan ke peringkat kebangsaan. Terbaru beliau baru mementaskan teater KOMPILASI VOLUM 2 (LEGASI) di bawah Rumah Anak Teater (RAT).

Graduan Sarjana Muda ini pernah mengarah naskah “OOI YANG DI ATAS SANA” karya allahyarham Samoza untuk penilaian akhirnya di Universiti Malaya pada tahun 2010. Beliau juga banyak melibatkan diri di belakang tabir sebagai Pengurus Pentas bagi pementasan RANCANGAN HARI JADI TERHEBAT ADLI, SCANDALICIOUS ISSUE, SERANGAN PERTAMA ZOMBIE DI MALAYSIA, MEDEA, MUZIKAL UDA DAN DARA, MUZIKAL TERIMA KASIH CINTA, LAT KAMPUNG BOY SEBUAH MUZIKAL & PROJEK DISKO BALDI.

Sifat ingin tahu dan mencuba yang tebal dalam diri beliau kini membuatkan beliau beralih arah ke dunia tv/filem sebagai penolong pengarah/koordinator artis di PESONA PICTURES. Beliau baru sahaja selesai pembikinan filem PUTERA NEGARA arahan Shuhaimi Baba. Walaupun begitu berkarya di atas pentas masih lagi menjadi keutamaan beliau. Terbaru di dalam telemovie Aku Dia Dan Tong Sampah serta 90 Hari beliau mencuba posisi sebagai Penolong Penerbit. Beliau baru sahaja selesai menjalani penggambaran drama 8 episod bertajuk Arka arahan Shuhaimi Baba sebagai coordinator artis/penolong pengarah(3). Selain itu beliau juga aktif berlakon antaranya di dalam teater Kawan Kawan Yang Kita Suka dan terbaru filem pendek Odah arahan Junad M. Nor.

KENYATAAN MEDIA: Remy Ishak Tarik Diri Berlakon Teater M.BUTTERFLY

Pelakon TV Paling Popular Berita Harian (2009 & 2010) dan Pelakon Filem Terbaik Anugerah Skrin TV3 (2011), Remy Ishak menyatakan hasratnya untuk menarik diri daripada berlakon dalam produksi teater M.BUTTERFLY yang dijadualkan dipentaskan bermula 11-14 April 2013 ini di Blackbox, PUBLIKA Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur.

Remy (31 tahun) memaklumkan kepada pihak produksi bahawa pihak pengurusannya tidak bersetuju untuk beliau memainkan naskah M.BUTTERFLY yang mempunyai elemen seksual dan politik.

Drama  yang diinspirasikan oleh opera Madama Butterfly Giacomo Puccini memaparkan watak utama, Rene Gallimard, yang merupakan seorang kakitangan awam dihantar untuk bekerja di kedutaan Perancis di China. Gallimard jatuh cinta dengan diva opera China, Song Liling, yang sebenarnya seorang lelaki menyamar sebagai seorang wanita.

M.BUTTERFLY pernah dipentaskan di Euqene O’Neill Theatre, New York Amerika Syarikat pada 20 Mac 1988 hingga 27 Januari 1990 selama 777 kali pementasan yang diarahkan oleh John Dexter dan pernah difilemkan selama tiga kali yang berlainan pengarah iaitu David Cronenberg, Jeremy Irons dan John Lone.

Selain itu filem M.Butterfly pernah memenangi dua anugerah iaitu Cerita Terbaik di Drama Desk Award dan Tony Award pada tahun 1988.

Peranan yang dimainkan oleh Remy Ishak akan dipikul oleh Benjy. Benjy (35 tahun) mula berkecimpung dalam dunia lakonan seawal usia satu tahun. Beliau muncul buat pertama kali dalam drama hitam putih, Lembayung Petang. Sejak itu, Benjy membintangi banyak drama televisyen, siri komedi, filem dan pementasan teater. Antaranya ialah Perempuan, Kembali, Baginda, Kampungku, Buddies, Hanya Untukmu, Charlie’s Aunty, Spilt Gravy on Rice dan Kerana Cintaku Saerah (Jibek). Benjy pernah memenangi anugerah Pelakon Lelaki Terbaik di Anugerah Skrin untuk lakonannya dalam drama Kembali dan Hanya Untukmu. Kemenangannya dalam Kembali mencatatkan kali pertama dalam sejarah Malaysia di mana ibu (biduanita Azean Irdawaty) dan anak dinobatkan sebagai Pelakon Lelaki dan Wanita Terbaik dalam drama yang sama. Beliau juga pemenang termuda dalam kategori itu.

Pementasan M.BUTTERFLY karya asal David Henry Hwang ini akan diarahkan oleh Mislina Mustaffa, pelakon/pengarah teater dan filem. M.BUTTERFLY yang bakal dipentaskan ini merupakan teater yang dialih bahasa dari Bahasa Inggeris ke Bahasa Melayu.

Pementasan produksi Rumah Anak Teater (RAT Production) ini mendapat geran pengurangan kos produksi kelolaan Jabatan Kesenian dan Kebudayaan Negara (JKKN) dan menjadi sebahagian daripada MAP Festival yang berlangsung 23Mac-21 April di PUBLIKA, Sloaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur.

EcoKnights is teaming up with MAPKL and Publika for the first time this year to
engage more community members to take on a proactive role in addressing
sustainability and environmental concerns.
The month long tribute to planet kicks off with Earth Hour Fest on 23 March 2013
where EcoKnights will be offering exciting and educational workshops and talks.
Among some of the workshops are “Backyard Composting for Beginners”, “Making
Your own DIY Indoor Garden”, and “From Trash to Bling”.
“Backyard Composting for Beginners” is a free workshop for communities to learn the
basics of composting. EcoKnights will be distributing 25 FREE composting bins (60
liters in capacity) to the first 25 participants to sign up for the workshops. The bins
will also be on sale at only RM50 at Publika during Earth Hour.
Apart from the free workshops, the public is also encouraged to participate in the
massive recycling initiative organised by Ecoknights in partnership Bumi Hijau and
another one by Earth Again. The EcoKnights and Bumi Hijau counter will be offering
an RM1 token for every 1kg of recyclables, which are redeemable Tanamera tropical
spa products and pre-loved books.
As all these activities take place, a line-up of street performers drum up the
momentum to a free outdoor concert in the evening to mark Earth Day with the
60minutes lights out. The concert will feature cultural performances from traditional
Malay music to the contemporary such as Japanese Butoh dance, shadow play
theatre, opera vocalists, aerial acrobatics, local bands, and many more.
After the festival on the 23rd of March, the public is invited to enjoy watching awardwinning
environmental documentaries and short films every Mondays at the Square
at Publika. Featuring the best films of the Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival over the
last six years, the public will get a chance to be entertained and educated on current
local and global environmental issues through films.

The inaugural VGA Fest’s theme is “Create, Share & Inspire”, aimed to innovate
ideas among the Visual Graphic Arts industry and to showcase the works to the

area of visual arts, experimental video, projection mapping, new media, audio visual,

5. AVEDA’S WALK FOR WATER

In aid of EcoKnights Mantanani Project + In collaboration with Genovasi
Aveda Light the Way™ Candles help provide clean water in communities all around
the world – a small price to make a big difference. Participants purchase a candle
and take part in Walk For Water, a 2km walk symbolic of the gruelling distances
women who live in areas without clean water supply have to walk to fetch freshwater.
This Malaysian leg of Aveda’s Walk For Water is in support of EcoKnight’s
Mantanani Project’s pilot programme “H2O – Help 2 Offer Clean Drinking Water to
Mantanani”. The island in Sabah is a popular tourist dive site but the locals do not
even have potable freshwater supply. The project’s master plan includes securing
Mantanani Island Conservation status and finding sustainable economic livelihoods
for the islanders.
The funds derived from this activity will be channelled to provide safe drinking water
to the communities in Mantanani. Additional funds will be used to kick start water
awareness programmes with the villagers.

Rockin For The Environment is an annual fundraising low impact concert for

with important messages about reef conservation through performances by local
musicians and bands, and a public exhibition by local NGOs and green businesses.

In celebration of its 3rd anniversary, MAP brings together friends who are artists, art
collectors and gallery owners to showcase artworks that are NOT FOR SALE. The
show attempts to explore the ‘exclusive’ relationships between the artworks and its
owners in the context of an exuberant art market. It is about the negotiation between
spiritual values and commercial values. Artworks submitted may include a collectors’
most notable/ inspirational acquisition, an artist’s most revealing/revolting work, or a
‘special’ gift/inheritance, or perhaps in one’s opinion the ‘best art ever’. The show
attempts a reading of ownership as a reaction of desires and self-identity. It also
seeks to address the narratives between the object and the subject, the material and
immaterial, ‘matter’ and ‘what really matters’. NOT FOR SALE exhibition will be held
at the white box, MAP from 26 march until 08 April 2013, and precedes the henry
butcher art auction 2013 exhibition.

In collaboration with Reef Check in partnership with Go International, EcoKnights,
EESEA (international environmental NGO), MENGO.
Rockin For The Environment is an annual fundraising low impact concert for
conservation with a themed format. This year’s the theme is in support of reef
conservation - ROCKIN’ 4 THE REEFS. This one day gig will entertain the audience
with important messages about reef conservation through performances by local
musicians and bands, and a public exhibition by local NGOs and green businesses.
Children and families can also sign-up for the “Adopt A Reef” programme.

In celebration of its 3rd anniversary, MAP brings together friends who are artists, art
collectors and gallery owners to showcase artworks that are NOT FOR SALE. The
show attempts to explore the ‘exclusive’ relationships between the artworks and its
owners in the context of an exuberant art market. It is about the negotiation between
spiritual values and commercial values. Artworks submitted may include a collectors’
most notable/ inspirational acquisition, an artist’s most revealing/revolting work, or a
‘special’ gift/inheritance, or perhaps in one’s opinion the ‘best art ever’. The show
attempts a reading of ownership as a reaction of desires and self-identity. It also
seeks to address the narratives between the object and the subject, the material and
immaterial, ‘matter’ and ‘what really matters’. NOT FOR SALE exhibition will be held
at the white box, MAP from 26 march until 08 April 2013, and precedes the henry
butcher art auction 2013 exhibition.
Participants include, artists such as Gan Chin Lee, Carolyn Lau, Poodien, Jalaini
Hassan, Ahmad Zakii Anwar, collectors U-Wei Hj Saari, Pakhruddin and Fatima,

BOH Cameronian Arts Awards: Kami dicalonkan lagi

Pada tahun ini, Rumah Anak Teater dicalonkan lagi melalui pementasan teater SeNaPaS yang dipentaskan pada 15-20 Mei 2012 dahulu di The Actor's Studio KL.

Kali ini Rumah Anak Teater dicalonkan dalam kategori Pengarah Terbaik. SeNaPaS merupakan karya dan arahan Khairunazwan Rodzy.

Pengumuman untuk upacara penganugerahan akan dijalankan pada 25 Mac 2013 (Isnin) di Alexis, The Gardens pada jam 7pm.

DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES

Also available are two development programmes aimed at helping to grow the performing arts industry:

1.      Mentor-mentee Programme
This programme is for people who would like to stage a production but have little or no experience at doing so.
Mentees receive a monthly stipend of RM1,800 to cover their cost of living during the programme as well as RM100,000 to stage their production.
Mentors selected for the programme will receive a token sum of RM5,000 for their participation.

2.      Apprentice Programme
This programme is targeted at individuals who would like to pursue a career in the performing arts industry but have little financial support to do so.
Therefore, apprentices will be placed at a performing arts company until December 2013 and receive a monthly stipend of RM1,800 to cover their cost of living
This is the first time that the government has made such grants and programmes available to the performing arts industry of Malaysia and in order for them to continue, we need to have a lot of applications to show them that there is a need for such financial assistance!


We are also seeking your recommendations for potential mentors and companies to host apprentices in your state (and region).

As it stands, we have many suggestions but most of them are based in the Klang Valley region and most are too theatre centric.

Additionally, if you (and other companies in your region) would like to employ interns or apprentices but don’t have the resources to do so, you can encourage them to apply and state in their applications that they would like to work at your organisation.

Tattoo Gestapo cabar Wae

MUNGKIN ramai yang tidak mengenali nama Wan Azli Wan Jusoh, tetapi pastinya ramai pernah mendengar mengenai filem Budak Kelantan yang menimbulkan fenomena pada 2008 kerana memaparkan kejujuran serta kehidupan anak Kelantan yang diangkat ke layar perak.

Dalam arena teater pula, Wan Azli yang mesra dengan panggilan Wae pernah mengarah teater yang kemudiannya dibawa ke filem oleh Namron seperti Agi Ni Jadi Jjaha' (2006), Supertuil Dan Transit Kaler Magenta (2006), Cikgu Mizi (2006) Asrar (2010) dan Asrar 2 (2011).
